I have my vices, we all do, but on the whole I do ok. I eat pretty well, I don't stress over it too much because I exercise. I exercise so that I can eat what I want. It's a simple equation. <div>But so much to do with a healthy lifestyle is not to do with whether you eat your five a day, or whether you work out. If you feel good within yourself, you look after yourself. </div><div>I found this on Pinterest and it sums it all up. </div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJZzhovzdJNSTsLPVoFYys8wZMyjigKKbu9GpsNyBexxcfx4bJtTAj3zhd3rBNHZLtHJ_Ja_783pKrXIYqWTE7KqMiBRpq4iHtVyE3huRnAfYKSTD8e-8cm1y9pikhWeFSswCKnL0bI-w/s640/blogger-image--1809220565.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJZzhovzdJNSTsLPVoFYys8wZMyjigKKbu9GpsNyBexxcfx4bJtTAj3zhd3rBNHZLtHJ_Ja_783pKrXIYqWTE7KqMiBRpq4iHtVyE3huRnAfYKSTD8e-8cm1y9pikhWeFSswCKnL0bI-w/s640/blogger-image--1809220565.jpg"></a></div><br></div>carolinehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10705512358596713043noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1109059323137936966.post-49795141365345352392014-05-21T14:20:00.001-07:002014-05-21T14:20:19.921-07:00My WorkspaceMy workshop is small but perfectly formed. <div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiapHahP_Dlnl56_Ta9UP-Yz_Dyxmiw571kHTQDJk6DXXAJ4MD2N3LV3LWHY5oyveNEE7nwl7Is8VrtFIqSCBo8UuJ5WTQrYqBO5eZXOvOxYUWbCp7cGF07s3xpGF2M7JmS4v-NHT5osl8/s640/blogger-image--1440528020.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiapHahP_Dlnl56_Ta9UP-Yz_Dyxmiw571kHTQDJk6DXXAJ4MD2N3LV3LWHY5oyveNEE7nwl7Is8VrtFIqSCBo8UuJ5WTQrYqBO5eZXOvOxYUWbCp7cGF07s3xpGF2M7JmS4v-NHT5osl8/s640/blogger-image--1440528020.jpg"></a></div>Desks a bit of a bomb site. </div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgfhZqqeBHeZrr0NCLEpF8JhWdt66MELWaO_8OOv93XB9vQiV2iDZwfnKIy0SSfuvOWkHU6rbf8ymC2jVvxkZd8jM8DY0_-AB5006LKcyrhwmKHjVSO8HrCrb7n8JCY1LN8KBEIpZlU9Go/s640/blogger-image-609886703.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgfhZqqeBHeZrr0NCLEpF8JhWdt66MELWaO_8OOv93XB9vQiV2iDZwfnKIy0SSfuvOWkHU6rbf8ymC2jVvxkZd8jM8DY0_-AB5006LKcyrhwmKHjVSO8HrCrb7n8JCY1LN8KBEIpZlU9Go/s640/blogger-image-609886703.jpg"></a></div>Big basket of fabric. Around the body it still fitted fine, but it was a little on the short side and the sleeves were too tight. </div><div>So the first thing I did was to make it into a T-shirt which was just a matter of cutting off the flowery sleeves. </div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrApExm3LxyZ_Vo_aoxkNq_i4Y1MY_10FIrsNbtsvkceqA1WzKurhehKWBkkE8r4Ge8rK10o3blj00x8Lnj2lJ5JA54BSyWMvj5QBvFBBuGuVnnH6d7Ov2u8akw3oMaFaCvoPuW3uAnZY/s640/blogger-image-1482159602.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrApExm3LxyZ_Vo_aoxkNq_i4Y1MY_10FIrsNbtsvkceqA1WzKurhehKWBkkE8r4Ge8rK10o3blj00x8Lnj2lJ5JA54BSyWMvj5QBvFBBuGuVnnH6d7Ov2u8akw3oMaFaCvoPuW3uAnZY/s640/blogger-image-1482159602.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiqAbilDoqG7OCQLHExcf_fq2or-OnR7RMAIX4iOwMJTP5djWm2vDprWfTrINLqfUR0AXCdiyWO_4J8mOOn4fNIJvcnFZe7MFb0LvTG0pfaoYBZFfMQTezxT1Iu-ebO5VW1woNXw0KOocw/s640/blogger-image--1196242668.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiqAbilDoqG7OCQLHExcf_fq2or-OnR7RMAIX4iOwMJTP5djWm2vDprWfTrINLqfUR0AXCdiyWO_4J8mOOn4fNIJvcnFZe7MFb0LvTG0pfaoYBZFfMQTezxT1Iu-ebO5VW1woNXw0KOocw/s640/blogger-image--1196242668.jpg"></a></div>I then cut off the seam and the hemmed cuffs and sewed them together to make a long strip.</div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiIkstiYpd2_bs5c1uvFzx22AMcWB27eTEB4bX_AW-Zv5PyQ3HR3vJvWp0qanfe_enZ1UyWxhrU0gZDXbTaVmcfkJJnzb9aasIf7SExi96Gx5PUaXnAyuOL88POIP0rHVQwpv4Seil5rUY/s640/blogger-image--1487177288.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiIkstiYpd2_bs5c1uvFzx22AMcWB27eTEB4bX_AW-Zv5PyQ3HR3vJvWp0qanfe_enZ1UyWxhrU0gZDXbTaVmcfkJJnzb9aasIf7SExi96Gx5PUaXnAyuOL88POIP0rHVQwpv4Seil5rUY/s640/blogger-image--1487177288.jpg"></a></div>The long strip I cut centrally lengthways, evened it all out so it was 3 inches wide, and sewed them all together to make a band. I ran a gathering stitch along the top edge, pulling it up so it was the same length as the bottom edge of the T-shirt. I pinned it in place, rights sides together, with the frill facing upwards and sewed it up. To finish, I ironed the frill down. Drinking as much coffee as I want. If I cant sleep its my problem.<br>
2. Midnight snacks. I buy the food, I'll eat it when I choose.<br>
3. Being able to paint my house whatever colour I want. Mr B detests painting, so as long as I do it, he doesnt care.<br>
4. Going to bed at a stupidly late hour. So what if I've got to be up for the school run in five hours? I can do that, because I can take..<br>
5. Naps.<br>
6. Less drama, less gossip. That's right, I don't talk to anyone on the playground.<br>
7. Having a house. A house! Crazy.<br>
8. Knowing sunny days will dry your washing for free.<br>
9. Meeting friends for coffee and feeling dead sophisticated.<br>
10. Wine.</p>
<p dir=ltr>That's is all.</p>

I know I had tough times- what teen doesn't? But the stand out memories are great. </div><div>It was the decade I fell in love for the first time, had my heart broken too. I sat here last night, checked out yesterday's topic, finding it was 'your day in photos'. And at half seven in the evening there was not much I could about that. But I'm pretty sure today was slightly more interesting. <div>This is the nice version of the day. I spared you the bickering and grumpy moments!</div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgRGKkXzlpeOScRD5XYA2g9pvh4XX8SFaLMzdTITC_petBCXFCB8gCllwAEgV0hP0tkQLEoFcmdJpSMXe0IauDKHX50Hzy3pMYiz8UVLCwrzs9G23q4RTICUlUHjXAHALPwkjQBzFktCl4/s640/blogger-image--1988825909.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgRGKkXzlpeOScRD5XYA2g9pvh4XX8SFaLMzdTITC_petBCXFCB8gCllwAEgV0hP0tkQLEoFcmdJpSMXe0IauDKHX50Hzy3pMYiz8UVLCwrzs9G23q4RTICUlUHjXAHALPwkjQBzFktCl4/s640/blogger-image--1988825909.jpg"></a></div>So, with the girls packed off to gymnastics for a couple of hours- Mr B's turn to take them, I got stuck straight into a bit of Zumba, followed by a spot of yoga and a short meditation. With Amber being off from school poorly, my day to myself was cancelled so I had to find a plan b. And that was cleaning. I think I've pretty much cleaned everything today. If its stood still for long enough, it got cleaned.<br>
Im not usually like this. Its a once or twice a year occurance. The sun was shining and I got the spring clean bit between my teeth. But I let go worrying about the state of the house a while ago. Its not a tip. I do keep it relatively clean. I do keep it relatively tidy, well, as tidy as you can with two children, especially two girls with a passion for crafts. (Wonder where they got that from!) I let go stressing about playdough on the carpet. I dont worry about them painting or playing with pasty or fondant icing in the kitchen. Lifes too short and messes can be cleared up. I don't get anoyed by the fact that not one single room in our house is finished. From a lick of paint to a bit of coving, they all need something doing. But it'll get done at some point. Thats just our home.</p>

A couple of months ago, make up free selfies were doing the rounds on Facebook. But that's me on a day to day basis. I don't wear make up beyond mascara. I don't like the feel of it, I can't stand lipstick and in all honesty I think my skin is a lot better for it. <div>That's not to say I don't care about my appearance, although those of you who see me on the school run may disagree, I don't know! I wage an ongoing battle with my hair. It's never red enough- I would love it to be something like this:</div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjn63epoqyAVSMyUQCoUD1E8bTDjMRcQSK_niOc6fl2eNix6E80xTdziJ1cVNu4aLs8aN5-2cPXJhAGlLv0MdmTDZh9ywIU2rMqCPJ7oh_smj-L1PYCiq1AF7PbwGrvqyGw3NQtpelUYTM/s640/blogger-image-1640654090.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjn63epoqyAVSMyUQCoUD1E8bTDjMRcQSK_niOc6fl2eNix6E80xTdziJ1cVNu4aLs8aN5-2cPXJhAGlLv0MdmTDZh9ywIU2rMqCPJ7oh_smj-L1PYCiq1AF7PbwGrvqyGw3NQtpelUYTM/s640/blogger-image-1640654090.jpg"></a></div>And it's naturally curly, but not in the way that my girls' is- lovely ringlets, no, mine is just frizz. This is not aided by the weathers persistence of raining at school run times. </div><div>As far as fashion goes, I'm one of those people who never really graduated beyond student. I don't know how to wear 'grown up' clothes, I live in jeans and trainers and a lot of my clothes have come into and gone out of fashion several times, I don't iron and I don't hang clothes up, they get stuffed into drawers. But one thing I do love doing is upcycling clothes. When jeans wear out I make then into skirts, I've made jeans that are too big into skinnies, cut up old T-shirts for workout tops or scarves. And these are a couple of projects I intend to try next. </div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQ6tZtHF3h9kfqfu9hoJXkQAY8PYFCqq_cRvsaJ8Ulgmh698G4_-whnminF4dYseelWpEmwkkjVmeHgkodmbPyWj2HmbmFaGz2XVUC5Cxi-U5OWHjwdpw_J6dq4qYFeEFR4ljzcrkYjDE/s640/blogger-image--1184786509.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQ6tZtHF3h9kfqfu9hoJXkQAY8PYFCqq_cRvsaJ8Ulgmh698G4_-whnminF4dYseelWpEmwkkjVmeHgkodmbPyWj2HmbmFaGz2XVUC5Cxi-U5OWHjwdpw_J6dq4qYFeEFR4ljzcrkYjDE/s640/blogger-image--1184786509.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMjV1ezg1tyqB_536rdTyNVCBCDcHjPVobyMGU5lEPK1bjYE98a8ZXPCtAal-SxA28r6aByRrVXpCfLZf-oOtAP9Du50KunJHRjRsoYvJNeGsTqNa7igkdOx728zpVrxViHEdHTqdhNi8/s640/blogger-image-1105833876.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMjV1ezg1tyqB_536rdTyNVCBCDcHjPVobyMGU5lEPK1bjYE98a8ZXPCtAal-SxA28r6aByRrVXpCfLZf-oOtAP9Du50KunJHRjRsoYvJNeGsTqNa7igkdOx728zpVrxViHEdHTqdhNi8/s640/blogger-image-1105833876.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJxrd4P9oEwPKQQ9HJlzEwy7M2v0bXVtJrfgcPeP6ZHS1j8EvkMYz8I-gXMAocwEwibhmmt9g5ualQhyphenhyphenEtE7NKDtWAmcELg7v9YEgJYUTlE_p1xpJWO7nfNrnYAhqBxjNRnXhLTXjOaa4/s640/blogger-image-628779877.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJxrd4P9oEwPKQQ9HJlzEwy7M2v0bXVtJrfgcPeP6ZHS1j8EvkMYz8I-gXMAocwEwibhmmt9g5ualQhyphenhyphenEtE7NKDtWAmcELg7v9YEgJYUTlE_p1xpJWO7nfNrnYAhqBxjNRnXhLTXjOaa4/s640/blogger-image-628779877.jpg"></a></div>So, see me down the charity shop in the next few days in search of mens shirts!</div>carolinehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10705512358596713043noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1109059323137936966.post-59551696105996331912014-05-10T14:18:00.001-07:002014-05-10T14:18:07.909-07:00Pizza night take 2<p dir=ltr>Mr B has just informed me that he intends to go gluten free for a while. He suffers from IBS and sometimes cutting out gluten improves things. But I always shudder when he does this because it is so difficult to do, not to mention expensive. Gluten free food is easily double the price of its standard counterparts and although I've had relative success making cakes with gluten free flour, bread is nigh on impossible.<br>
And of course its pizza night tonight. So we had a theme on variations. For Mr B, I made a base substituting spelt flour for strong white flour. I know spelt still contains gluten, but it is a lot more digestable than flour and he always tollerated it before. That worked fine.<br>
For myself I tried making a base using cauliflower. I've seen these on the internet and been intregued, although in most instances they seemed to be pretty cheese heavy. Then I found a recipe which just binds the cauliflower using a beaten egg, so I tried that. Again, although not the same as a lovely crispy, bread base,  it actually tasted nice. And saved on the calories too. So more pudding then!</p>

My initial idea was a blackboard. But we have a lot of blackboards. We also get a lot of artwork Two small children. Lots of pictures. </div><div>So for a very quick make, I grabbed a staple gun and some wire, stapled it into the frame in a zigzag pattern, add a few pegs and hey presto! New notice board!</div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjAiHr4xdMKu9_Ibjmq6p66db4TBWgsyZ9fOf5kiFEW8JUFb8PKmS9BCsGOUBDOHpVIxEImTiGlnpsWO_6x7hQsXJze9Pb1cL07FSms2ygZXqDqt2rIstRM9AYEemNNcSjDe1atLQL-OEE/s640/blogger-image--2000452219.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjAiHr4xdMKu9_Ibjmq6p66db4TBWgsyZ9fOf5kiFEW8JUFb8PKmS9BCsGOUBDOHpVIxEImTiGlnpsWO_6x7hQsXJze9Pb1cL07FSms2ygZXqDqt2rIstRM9AYEemNNcSjDe1atLQL-OEE/s640/blogger-image--2000452219.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjY-3t3MNZK5_aQB-Bah0X3dB7AVCviuCslX0Qosqx_y1zWm2nuLySikgNTiFvmnb81OyHRaKOpK98LSedYMSWNXNnNaWCS2ke3nxZaC_02fpL4yc7NGyabeBraFDWrXTQR5bdoNG7Os7I/s640/blogger-image-586355742.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjY-3t3MNZK5_aQB-Bah0X3dB7AVCviuCslX0Qosqx_y1zWm2nuLySikgNTiFvmnb81OyHRaKOpK98LSedYMSWNXNnNaWCS2ke3nxZaC_02fpL4yc7NGyabeBraFDWrXTQR5bdoNG7Os7I/s640/blogger-image-586355742.jpg"></a></div>Quick, cheap, simple, useful. Not just happy, but different within myself. I feel positive, much more confident, I am facing challenges with a completely different attitude. And although I'm not completely sure, I suspect it may have something to do with meditation. <div>For the last month or so I have been falling asleep listening to guided meditations on You Tube. The lucid dream hypnosis clips have been fantastic, I've had amazing dreams and felt like I've had a really good nights sleep too. </div><div>Like I say, I'm not completely sure that meditation is the key, but then I found this on Pinterest and it kind of sums up the way I'm feeling. </div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDX_1HfjV3HICyVttDbpsPv9hnM2fLPY5udirqBmqTUPeVgt0jmo3MkpPEpfWqjD-IAboYrphxYTKmiJH7NHw7d7noU316NP_PiQ17q_7ujqKDyMIxlgc79k6g58s27eCrOXHXItfmz6w/s640/blogger-image--673443986.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDX_1HfjV3HICyVttDbpsPv9hnM2fLPY5udirqBmqTUPeVgt0jmo3MkpPEpfWqjD-IAboYrphxYTKmiJH7NHw7d7noU316NP_PiQ17q_7ujqKDyMIxlgc79k6g58s27eCrOXHXItfmz6w/s640/blogger-image--673443986.jpg"></a></div>And for a few minutes a day, or just listening to something as you're falling asleep, that seems like a pretty good deal to me. </div>carolinehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10705512358596713043noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1109059323137936966.post-1523701066706734202014-05-06T12:29:00.001-07:002014-05-06T12:29:12.258-07:00Passion ProjectsToday's suggested topic is Passion Projects, what you would love to do and earn money from. I can always remember my dad telling me that your working life is a long one so pick something you love- or words to that effect. <div>I must admit that having a degree in music is perhaps not the most useful of things. The job pool is pretty limited but as I think I've blogged about before, I have been fortunate enough to fall lucky in some ways because I do love repairing. I live the fact that no two jobs are the same, that you're always being pushed, always learning something new. </div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgOoOOa8jdvSzeMS_OGSafqp3lS2TxcZGOtMVvsSJcI7-vj-T-MsgmFG6XM1J4-diCGJEsxQfUpiUFrd6jWi3v-53IdQ8Akf-xQyxUskX2Hu-D5gOAl4BpEHKLwi1vfFPeciFuLCNMeBO8/s640/blogger-image-1600600436.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgOoOOa8jdvSzeMS_OGSafqp3lS2TxcZGOtMVvsSJcI7-vj-T-MsgmFG6XM1J4-diCGJEsxQfUpiUFrd6jWi3v-53IdQ8Akf-xQyxUskX2Hu-D5gOAl4BpEHKLwi1vfFPeciFuLCNMeBO8/s640/blogger-image-1600600436.jpg"></a></div>Something like this turns up at my door and its a dream, there is nothing like a full on restoration project, turning something that's effectively junk and making it play again, giving it its reason back. </div><div>Having said that, I obviously love making things too, a quiet afternoon with my sewing machine is my idea of heaven. </div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBAn_bCXQYzr0gmFK7D5sJ4Ct2hV_UCTFzmmPIHgjfJIhZ8eM-9T7r43wz0PGGmoLE2YG5hLbAuif4-HNOc1esC8sgnQYPvAjNGfY9NUN_uXC5j7elXS5s8cW3_NuGDlfF8atKOTU-hRo/s640/blogger-image-693145019.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBAn_bCXQYzr0gmFK7D5sJ4Ct2hV_UCTFzmmPIHgjfJIhZ8eM-9T7r43wz0PGGmoLE2YG5hLbAuif4-HNOc1esC8sgnQYPvAjNGfY9NUN_uXC5j7elXS5s8cW3_NuGDlfF8atKOTU-hRo/s640/blogger-image-693145019.jpg"></a></div>And then I found this picture on Pinterest (yes I am addicted) and I'm starting to wonder if I can combine the two!</div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLMqtKKaeBmmO_mOLmRDASoT_tWYbfcVz5t1v0P9GWveldNxqwKDqBse5gfaIhWP-XBt0nPKSW3gyQLOpNn27guoTMMxWTnGePghcDxIWEwp7rHl2j3PntUuhV5qeGJaPFZBLb2Lm75RQ/s640/blogger-image--542561255.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLMqtKKaeBmmO_mOLmRDASoT_tWYbfcVz5t1v0P9GWveldNxqwKDqBse5gfaIhWP-XBt0nPKSW3gyQLOpNn27guoTMMxWTnGePghcDxIWEwp7rHl2j3PntUuhV5qeGJaPFZBLb2Lm75RQ/s640/blogger-image--542561255.jpg"></a></div><br></div>carolinehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10705512358596713043noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1109059323137936966.post-80289113780115638532014-05-05T12:25:00.001-07:002014-05-05T13:43:11.644-07:00Ten track shuffleI'm going to break away from the set topics today as I really didn't have much to say about it. So I delved into Pinterest for inspiration and found something different. Today I hit shuffle on my iPod, and here are the first ten songs. This is the randomness that is my taste in music. <div><br><div>1. Alice in Chains -Stone. Loved Alice in Chains in my teens, so glad they came back and this song was everything I expected and more. </div><div><br></div><div>2. Professor Elemental -Everything Stops For Tea. Genius bit of chap hop, smile inducing silliness. And my girls love him too. </div></div><div><br></div><div>3. Arctic Monkeys -Mad Sounds. Such clever songwriting, and a taste of the north which reminds me of good times.</div><div><br></div><div>4. Tchaikovsky -Manfred Symphony 4th mv. Powerful stuff this. I wrote my dissertation on Tchaikovsky and no matter how many times I listen to his music it still makes my skin goose bump. </div><div><br></div><div>5. Buckcherry -Crazy Bitch. From one extreme to the other. This is nasty, sleazy metal with a rubbishy guitar solo in the middle, but for what ever inexplicable reason, it works for me. </div><div><br></div><div>6. Abney Park -The End Of Days. Haven't listened to this in a long time. Abney Park are a steampunk band and I guess I just have to be in the right mood for this. </div><div><br></div><div>7. Halestorm -Here's To Us. A fairly recent discovery, the lead singer is a lady who seriously rocks. This song has way too many swear words for child friendly listening, but it's a great power ballad nevertheless. </div><div><br></div><div>8. Crusell Clarinet Concerto No.1, 2nd mv. I am so badly out of practice, but I can still knock out fairly decent renditions of Crusell's concertos as the notes fall so easily under the fingers. If I have ten minutes and fancy having a play, this is what I pick. </div><div><br></div><div>9. White Stripes -Catch Hell Blues. I have a love/hate relationship with the White Stripes. Generally I pretty much hate them, but just occasionally they come up with a track that lodges itself inside my head. This is such a track. </div><div><br></div><div>10. Katy B. -Why You Always Here. Rounding off what is a distinctly rock and classical list with a bit of pop! Well variety is the spice of life!</div><div><br></div><div>Few. That's wasn't too embarrassing, and given some of the tracks in my iPod, it could have been! </div>carolinehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10705512358596713043noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1109059323137936966.post-52111706680812494602014-05-04T12:37:00.001-07:002014-05-04T12:37:03.826-07:00May the 4th be with you..<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEja9ywQNUjjN-q7btiAjYWkqaH09iE7gAgsXp_2yrkQaSBzq3hu0pyi_SoKDqILEreTqpk6xS2_29Mty2Kti6x9aRk_qzK-PXTxAOWFtudjqyD_nju2JLSAaXwgpvWUuM_eOOZWh_kDJjE/s640/blogger-image--1338373799.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEja9ywQNUjjN-q7btiAjYWkqaH09iE7gAgsXp_2yrkQaSBzq3hu0pyi_SoKDqILEreTqpk6xS2_29Mty2Kti6x9aRk_qzK-PXTxAOWFtudjqyD_nju2JLSAaXwgpvWUuM_eOOZWh_kDJjE/s640/blogger-image--1338373799.jpg"></a></div>Yes, today's topic is Star Wars day. I'm a victim of circumstance you might say. <div>Saturday mornings are either spent sitting around for two hours at a sports centre watching one child take her gymnastics class whilst trying to keep the other one entertained/fed/quiet, before they swap over and the whole process starts again; or if its Mr B's turn, I get a morning to myself. I would like to say that these few hours to myself are spent relaxing, maybe catching a bit of Saturday Kitchen, a leisurely breakfast.. No. More often than not by the time I've cleared up the trail of destruction left behind by rushing to get them ready, tidied the house a little because you just feel you have to put in a bit of an effort, and done a workout, they're marching back in through the door again. Wanting lunch. </div><div>Sundays are a lot more laid back thank goodness. You have to have one day a week with some semblance of a lie in. Mr B goes out on a bike ride, they play, I bake and cook Sunday lunch. Pottering in my kitchen. </div>carolinehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10705512358596713043noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1109059323137936966.post-66464602616222459082014-05-02T15:08:00.001-07:002014-05-02T15:08:19.636-07:005 Fave Posts<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Okay. Deep breath. Today's topic is to pick your five favourite posts from your blog. So this is going to involve putting in links. I sense this could go badly.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I haven't really looked back through all of the blog posts I've done over the last three or four years. To be totally honest I can't believe I've been writing this blog for that length of time. You'd think by now I'd actually have a handle on it and have some idea of how to work it properly. Fail! Never mind.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
When I first read the topic for today, there was one post that immediately sprung to mind, which was one of the topics from #BEDN (blog every day in November). I usually tend to stick to posts about making things, but in this instance I strayed into what was making the news at the time, the subject of <a href="http://whatcarolinemade.blogspot.co.uk/2013/11/topic-of-day.html">breast feeding</a>. It was a post that stuck in my mind because of the lovely reaction I received from people who read it.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And so on to number two and three. I've put a fair few tutorials on here and hopefully on the whole they've been pretty straight forwards to follow. After all this is a blog about making. These two are my favourites.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="http://whatcarolinemade.blogspot.co.uk/2012/10/super-simple-purse-frame-tutorial.html">The super simple purse frame tutorial</a></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<br />
<a href="http://whatcarolinemade.blogspot.co.uk/2012_07_01_archive.html">The cutest little bag tutorial</a><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Then I've also done a few recipes too and these are my tow favourites and are regulars on the weekly menu still.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="http://whatcarolinemade.blogspot.com/2012_03_01_archive.html">Smoked Mackeral Risotto</a></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Cutting it fine there, just sneaking in before midnight! I'm not going to push my luck any further. Links in, photos in. Job done! </div>

So long in fact that the blogger app has completely changed. But will it be any less useless than before? Only time will tell...</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">So the #100happydays challenge is going well over on my Facebook page, I think I've only missed a couple of days. This obviously proves that the only way I'll get anything done is to set myself a challenge, and not just a self imposed challenge- but to actually put my name down for something. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">Blogging is one of those things it's just easy to let slide. I have no excuse really. I can find the time to do a workout, do my work, do some writing, even meditation but this thing falls by the wayside. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">But I'm back! Just as I did in November, I shall be blogging every day in May. There are suggested topics, sometimes I'll stick to them (if I can't think of anything else to write about), sometimes I'll do my own stuff, cos that's how I roll ;-) The topic for today is 'what is your blog about?' Mines like Ronseal in that it does what it says on the tin. Having never used Ronseal I don't know how true their claim actually is, but as far as my blog world goes, whatcarolinemade is just that. So there you go! And I'll be back tomorrow! X<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRqdfBUrSXSgobI97MRO6negqE990VYiDWpcJe8aZUsCj88aYA18oGG36EPpbi-E8H4o_35VqcsDio81ZAEKfqfPTAgoNRs9cmK9j9bc00SpAYWRY9cvjd20ioAu5kwFItqqi9ue4Sf64/s640/blogger-image--611826260.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; "><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiRqdfBUrSXSgobI97MRO6negqE990VYiDWpcJe8aZUsCj88aYA18oGG36EPpbi-E8H4o_35VqcsDio81ZAEKfqfPTAgoNRs9cmK9j9bc00SpAYWRY9cvjd20ioAu5kwFItqqi9ue4Sf64/s640/blogger-image--611826260.jpg"></a></div>carolinehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10705512358596713043noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1109059323137936966.post-72792602090826869502014-03-25T03:27:00.001-07:002014-03-25T03:27:59.565-07:00100 happydays<p dir=ltr>So I'm just going to sneak in under the radar and ignore the fact that I haven't posted in, like, two months. Ahem..<br>
It seems that the best way for me to stick to things is to take on a challenge. As with the blog challenge to post every day in November, for the last 20 days, I have been taking on #100HappyDays. The idea behind it is to take a photo every day of what makes you happy, not, as it may sound, to be happy for 100 days, which is not going to happen is it? I'm realistic about these things after all.<br>
What I have found is that its the simple things that are making the grade, when my bread turns out looking amazing and not the weight of a house brick; when I get half an hour to sit and read my favorite magazine; a sunny afternoon at the playground-obviously with the children (fun as the swings are). Even in the darkest of days, there's that chink of sunshine. So would you take on the challenge?<br>
</p>

<p dir="ltr">There are loads of really easy recipes floating around on Pinterest. This is my version.<br>
You will need:<br>
Plain flour<br>
Oil<br>
Onion<br>
Chicken stock<br>
Optional:<br>
Bacon<br>
Chicken<br>
Mushrooms</p>
<p dir="ltr">I fried up half a diced onion in some oil until translucent, then l sprinkled over a couple of tablespoons of flour and stired to coat the onions. Gradually add your chicken stock a ladle at a time and stir it in well to get rid of any lumps. I use about a pint of stock. Season well and add a splash of milk to give it that 'cream of' look. In the first version I made I fried some bacon with the onion along with some mushrooms too. And of course you can throw in a handfull of your roast chicken as well.</p>
<p dir="ltr">One of these day I'll get these apps working properly. I can only apologise for the lack of photos. Aparently the format isnt supported. Grrr. These things are sent to try us I guess.</p>
<p dir="ltr">As for the other two batches of chicken, well this week, Monday saw us with a chicken and brocolli stirfry and on Tuesday I used it with some mushrooms and pasta in a Philadelphia sauce. Of course curry is also a firm favourite, or chicken pie, chicken and mushroom risotto.. the list goes on.<br>
So that how you get more out of your chicken for the money!</p>
<br><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwaHEHuKEbRMNvD1ttBZegpuoMxmajf5oe0m9XnRubNpk48De-0z9o1Z_X0fnxEZMDUcq8ZsgeHAqAE-M2LyE7ZDSomWMqIggOZRGmr1CXQl3bn9P9nr-eRmfuUyHmGd4boIf-xHEo2XM/s640/blogger-image--1661853495.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwaHEHuKEbRMNvD1ttBZegpuoMxmajf5oe0m9XnRubNpk48De-0z9o1Z_X0fnxEZMDUcq8ZsgeHAqAE-M2LyE7ZDSomWMqIggOZRGmr1CXQl3bn9P9nr-eRmfuUyHmGd4boIf-xHEo2XM/s640/blogger-image--1661853495.jpg"></a></div>carolinehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10705512358596713043noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1109059323137936966.post-32276965703193594192014-02-02T13:50:00.001-08:002014-02-02T13:51:16.314-08:00Get the most out of your Sunday lunch<p dir=ltr>Sunday lunch, for us, is an intrinsic part of the weekend and the chicken is probably the most expensive single item on the shopping bill. So it makes sense to make the most of it. I have always stripped the carcas off and made a curry with the left overs the following day, but after delving into Jamie Olivers latest book, I have been able to take it further. My daughter aren't big meat eaters, so because of this I can stretch out a large chicken, but it won't exactly work for a large family of four. <br>
I roast my chicken at a low temperature after soaking it in a brine overnight. I was intregued by seeing it on Heston Blumenthal,  I didn't think that you would cook a chicken at 100ºc for 90 minutes and it would cook in that time, but it does and more to the point it is incredibly moist and tasty. After the meal has been demolished by my family, I strip off every last bit of chicken. Its so much easier done when its still warm. From todays 1.6kg bird, I ended up with 500g of meat which I split into two containers and put in the fridgewhen cool.<br>
With the carcass, I boil it up to make stock. Stick all the bones in a pan with 1.5 litres of water, half a carrot, half an onion , a few peppercorns and a bay leaf, bring to the boil and simmer for an hour or so.<br>
So thats Sundays installment. I'll post a recipe for a really simple soup tomorrow.</p>

<br />
Where did that month go? It would seem I have an all or nothing situation going on with this blog! So I'm making February my new January as far as getting my backside in gear goes. I've enrolled on a couple of courses in the vague hope of finding a direction which doesn't solely revolve around washing, cooking, cleaning, you know, all that entails looking after my little family.
I am also going to plan out my blog posts. Apparently this is a good thing to do. Sounds pretty organised I must admit. The plan is to do a food/recipe post on Sunday and a crafty post on aThursday. There is the possibility of others slipping in here and there, you never know! And I already know what Sundays post will be too, it's how I make a large roast chicken last for four meals. I meant to write this post yesterday! So, happy new year to you. Is it too late to be wishing that now? Christmas seems like a long time ago now, as always, all of that panic, the last minute wrapping and present making, well it all came together and a good time was had by all.<br />
New year prompts resolutions, doesn't it? To be honest, I cant remember my resolutions from last year- maybe I'll have to go back to my post this time last year and find out. I imagine they were along the lines of eat more healthily, exercise more, be more organised, drink less wine, blah, blah.<br />
What I have noticed this year in magazines and blogs, even on the radio today, is a move towards more positive resolutions. Of course, the bog standard ones above are all positive changes you are making towards your lifestyle, but they are accentuating the aspect of your life you're not happy about. I have found from past experience that I make those kind of changes when the time is right for me. Lets face it, post Christmas, when you have a pile of chocolate, biscuits and wine is a really bad time to kick start a diet with constant temptation under your nose!<br />
The is a definite shift to making your resolitions about doing more things, fun, excitimg things.<br />
So I'll start the diet when I'm good and ready thanks.<br />
And I resolve to learn how to crochet, make more pretty things and drink more tea!<br />

I guess that's the thing when you post every day, it feels kinda weird when you don't, I feel like I'm neglecting it. <div>I'm trying to get geared up for Christmas, like most of us are, but I'm getting distracted I must admit. </div><div>Yesterday I had a go at paper cutting for the first time. I've been looking at these gorgeous designs on Pinterest </div><div><img src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-eVNAe20qIX4/Up95Zjz5O5I/AAAAAAAABPc/8PuGgQFnIec/I/photo_442509.jpg" border="0" class="bloggoimg"></div><div><img src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-Byzr5jQOxDE/Up95bfIhz4I/AAAAAAAABPk/t1zWfnUuNIA/I/photo_555593.jpg" border="0" class="bloggoimg"></div>and I have a couple of books on it, but never given it a go. I don't know why. It's a pretty cheap thing to do. No equipment needed that I didn't already have, a cutting mat and scalpel.<div>I downloaded a template from <a href="http://originalpaperpanda.blogspot.com">http://originalpaperpanda.blogspot.com</a><br><div>and printed it off onto some light card. </div></div><div>It takes <i>ages </i>first off, so definitely a craft for someone with patience. And it's nerve racking too. One slip and you could ruin it. I got to this stage</div><div><div><img src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-RrBJtANaq58/Up95eOnoKaI/AAAAAAAABPs/f-nd10h126s/I/photo_616243.jpg" border="0" class="bloggoimg"></div><br>by which time I'd already been at it for a good couple of hours, and I was a nervous wreck- well, that's a slight exaggeration, but I did shut myself in the workshop so as not to be disturbed by anyone!</div><div>But I did manage it and I'm pretty pleased with the results. Yes, it's maybe not that tidy around the edges if you look close enough and the tip of my finger is still numb from pressing down on the scalpel so that's something I would have make changes to before trying it again. <div><img src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-PuSBY-pijRw/Up95hBiX-nI/AAAAAAAABP0/8Odu_aoo7q0/I/photo_695915.jpg" border="0" class="bloggoimg"></div><br>I'm sold though, I think the end result is well worth the time and effort. I just need to frame it before it gets ripped. </div><div>I may cry if that happens..<br> <br> <br></div>carolinehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10705512358596713043noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1109059323137936966.post-8072852820258282672013-11-30T11:07:00.000-08:002013-11-30T11:18:08.974-08:00The EndOh my goodness. Well that was November. And I managed it! Sometimes it was short, sometimes a collection of pictures but I got to today having posted every day. Thank you to everyone who paid me a visit this month and thank you for your lovely comments. <div><div><img src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-PZZcHu_K8Wo/Upo57D-tdKI/AAAAAAAABPE/6hVZaluMXFo/I/photo_192090.jpg" border="0" class="bloggoimg"></div><br>Doing this challenge has certainly reinvigorated my passion for creating and making things. It has also made me realise that my blog posts don't necessarily have to be crafting or recipes. I certainly feel less conscious about voicing my opinions or feeling on subjects- well in blog form anyway!</div><div>So this evening I shall be venturing into the cold workshop to make another elf on the shelf as the last one got discovered! I will be back soon, probably not tomorrow though!</div><div>Have a great weekend! Xx</div><div><div><img src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-BNU6pmgghXk/Upo573VZXnI/AAAAAAAABPM/EbAAoCG1i-E/I/photo_484260.jpg" border="0" class="bloggoimg"></div><br><br> <br> <br></div>carolinehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10705512358596713043noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1109059323137936966.post-21790908638446209662013-11-29T13:20:00.000-08:002013-11-29T13:32:46.824-08:00A Little Fairy DustLets face it, having children is really a second childhood for us too. I quite enjoy an excuse to watch Mary Poppins or sit and make Lego models. My girls are still at the age where they believe in Santa. We told then that a red sky in the evening was Santa's elves making their way from Lapland to visit all the children and they believed us, which is wonderful. In a world where children are encouraged to grow up so quickly, to have a little magic now and then is quite something. <div>Which is why, come the spring and I feel it is warm enough to venture outside, I want to make a fairy garden for the girls. There are some enchanting ideas on Pinterest. </div><div><div><img src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-BCFlZeb6og4/UpkH5fOWvsI/AAAAAAAABOk/vbFnGXXYp8Y/I/photo_215462.jpg" border="0" class="bloggoimg"></div><div><br></div><div><img src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-LWuwbXye0LM/UpkH9uvcwPI/AAAAAAAABOs/i5M65G8yQ0M/I/photo_590343.jpg" border="0" class="bloggoimg"></div><br>Because I want their childhood to be laced with just a touch of fairy dust. </div><div><div><img src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-guLZoJMXCG0/UpkH_LCaC6I/AAAAAAAABO0/PghQ1ZT2qX0/I/photo_520285.jpg" border="0" class="bloggoimg"></div><br><br> <br> <br><br> <br> <br></div>carolinehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10705512358596713043noreply@blogger.com0
